Security Stickers Help Detect Overlays
A major retailer recently found overlay skimmers on some of their Ingenico iSC250 card terminals. What if this happened in your store? Do you think you could spot the overlay? More importantly, are your employees trained to spot overlays? A few minutes of training could protect your customer’s credit card data and save your store from a costly credit card data breach. The link below is an article by Brain Krebs who provides a few pointers on how to spot an overlay skimmer.

Another method to help detect card terminal overlays or tampering is to apply a security sticker to the side or the back of the card terminal. Then train your employees to periodically inspect the sticker for tampering. If during the inspection your employee notices the sticker is covered or partially covered, an overlay skimmer may be attached to the card terminal.
Finally, take pictures of your card terminals and inventory the serial numbers. Comparing the card terminal to a picture of the device will help your employees quickly determine if anything has changed and validating the serial number will help determine if the card terminal was replaced.
