Cenex Gift Card Acceptance Update

Over the past few years, CHS Payment Solutions has taken many measures to improve the security of Cenex® gift cards to reduce fraudulent attacks and protect our merchants and consumers. As you know, four-digit CVVs (card validation values) were added to the back of all gift cards for increased protection.

Recently, we have been notified of malicious activity regarding old gift cards that do not have CVVs, culminating in an uptick of gift card fraud. As a result, beginning January 15, 2024, gift cards without CVVs will no longer be accepted at any Cenex locations.

Important Details:

  • Beginning January 15, gift cards without CVVs on the back of the card can no longer be activated at any Cenex locations.
    • If a store still has gift cards without CVVs, please dispose of them immediately
    • New gift cards can be ordered online at cenexshop.com
  • If a customer tries to redeem a gift card without a CVV, the transaction will decline. Even if the transaction declines, gift cards without a CVV may still have a balance.

If a consumer tries to redeem a gift card without a CVV:

A manager must contact Payment Solutions customer support at 800-852-5301.

Provide the following details:

  1. Verify the consumer has a physical Cenex gift card in their possession.
    • Provide the gift card number that is printed on the card (four-digit CVV should not be present).
  2. Customer support will verify if the card has funds remaining or not.
    • If the card does not have funds remaining, instruct the consumer to dispose of the gift card.
    • If the card does have funds remaining, provide a new gift card number with a CVV to the customer support team member. The customer support team member will then initiate a balance transfer to the new gift card.
