Important Update – Outdoor EMV Liability Shift
As you are aware, changes by the card brands will shift fraud liability to the merchant in October 2020. This shift will occur is an EMV payment method is used at a dispenser that has not been upgraded with EMV capable hardware and software.
In the last few weeks, both Visa and American Express have announced they are pushing their fraud liability shift date back to April 2021. Please note, as of right now this new date only applies to Visa and American Express transactions. We are diligently waiting to hear if other card brands will be following suit, but do not have additional information to provide at this time. If there are additional details or updates about the outdoor EMV timeline, we will communicate with merchants ASAP.
