Upgrade to Outdoor EMV – Don’t be Liable for Fraud!

Approximately one year ago, in April 2021, card brands shifted the liability for fraudulent transactions. Merchants not fully equipped with Outdoor EMV (OEMV) technology are fully responsible for all fraudulent transactions.

Chargebacks with a reason of “EMV Liability Shift” for transactions that took place at the pump indicates a customer disputed a transaction with their card issuer. If a card was swiped at the pump instead of the EMV chip being used the merchant is fully responsible.

Cenex branded locations can qualify for a technology rebate after OEMV upgrades have been completed. OEMV is now available on all POS systems, so upgrade as soon as possible to limit your liability.
