Prevent Counterfeit Fraud
Would you be able to identify a counterfeit bill if you were given one? If you’re not equipped with the knowledge to identify money, you could find yourself a victim to counterfeit attacks. Set your location up for success, and reference 5 indicators to look for the next time you accept money:
1. Watermarks – Visible from either side when held to light
2. Color Shifting Ink – Shifts from copper to green as bill is tilted 45 degrees (except $5)
3. Security Thread – A clear thread embedded vertically in the paper inscribed with the denomination of the note and visible when held to light. (except $1 and $2)
4. 3-D Security Ribbon – Blue ribbon woven into note which moves when tilted side to side or up and down ($100 bill only)
5. Serial Numbers – First letter of serial number corresponds to series year
