Outdoor EMV – Pinnacle Palm Update
In April 2021, card brands will begin shifting liability for fraud occurring on non-EMV enabled outdoor hardware from the card brand to the locations using such hardware. This means if you operate a dispenser that does not accept EMV payments, you will be responsible, and should expect to receive chargebacks for any fraud occurring at your dispenser.
Over the last few years, CHS Payment Solutions has engaged Pinnacle to develop a solution to support EMV transactions at the dispenser via the Verifone Commander EF platform. While the expected solution was set to be available by the end of February, the solution is not currently available. Furthermore, it is unclear from Pinnacle when, or if, the solution will be ready.
If you are a Pinnacle Palm user and are concerned about the outdoor EMV liability shift and potential chargebacks, CHS Payment Solutions recommends you work with your Authorized Service Contractors (ASC) or other equipment distributor(s) to determine the best solution for your location(s).
Please note that outdoor EMV is not a required payment method to process credit cards through CHS Payment Solutions. However, as of April 2021 any fraudulent transactions that occur outdoors on non-EMV payment terminals will not receive fraud protection either from CHS or from the various card brands.
