New Software Release Plan – CHS Approved Software Versions

CHS Payment Solutions is excited to announce a new release plan for Point of Sale (POS) software to improve access to the latest features and functionality from various POS providers that are supported on the CHS network.

Historically, CHS has only required software releases related to payment processing or POS security. The primary focus was to provide security updates to reduce vulnerabilities from viruses and malware. As a result, lower priority releases including minor bug fixes and non-critical functionality enhancements were not always available immediately upon release.

This new software release plan will result in additional approved software versions being available, allowing merchants to take advantage of new features and bug fixes provided by our POS partners. Moving forward, software releases will be classified in the following two categories:

  1. CHS Approved Software Versions
  • Effective immediately, a list of the most recent CHS approved software versions for each POS will be displayed on the Merchant Services Online Access (MSOA) portal.
  • You can choose to upgrade to an approved version of software at any time, however you must upgrade to an approved version within 6 months of the announcement of a software expiration. (see below for details on expired software versions).
  • As in the past, we will continue to test all approved software to ensure that payment functionality is working as intended before announcing each release.
  1. Expired Software Versions
  • To ensure proper security requirements are being met, we will continue to require locations to remain on an approved software version at all times. CHS recommends installing the most current version available. As we increase the number of approved software versions, expiration dates will be added to older versions of software rather than requiring installation for every approved release.
  • Announcements of software expirations will occur 6 months prior to the expiration date. There is no change in the amount of time you must upgrade. Once a software version hits its expiration date, software out-of-date fees will apply to the locations that are still running on the expired software.
  • If you have a location running a software version that has been announced as expired, it is recommended that you upgrade to the newest CHS Approved Software Version to take full advantage of what the software has to offer.
