Disabling Contactless Magstripe Transactions
Contactless magstripe transactions are historically less secure than standard magstripe or EMV transactions. As a result, beginning March 31, 2023 the major card brands will assess fees to sites still accepting contactless magstripe transactions. To avoid these fees, contactless magstripe transactions will no longer be accepted on the CHS Payment Solutions network effective March 31, 2023.
Contactless EMV payments will transition to the only accepted form of contactless payment. Swiped magstripe, and inserted credit card transactions will continue to be accepted.
At present, all indoor point-of-sale (POS) systems fully up-to-date with CHS Payment Solutions will support contactless support EMV contactless on indoor transactions. However, dispensers and/or outdoor transactions may still be impacted by disabling contactless magstripe transactions. Sites currently operating on Comdata Smartdesq System, version 3.19 and higher, are fully complaint with outdoor and indoor transactions contactless EMV payments. All other POS systems will be adding contactless EMV capabilities in the next five months leading up to this change.
